Hills at Dusk, monochromatic atmospheric watercolour

Hills at Dusk is an atmospheric landscape watercolour using a limited colour palette.

My mindful walks in the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales inspired this painting, along with various photo references. The painting captures the tranquil atmosphere of these places.

The scene features a winding road disappearing into the distant hills under the fading light of twilight. In the foreground, teasels and long grasses sway gently in the breeze, adding depth to the composition.

My use of a limited colour palette in Hills at Dusk helps to create atmosphere in the landscape. Furthermore, I have used various watercolour techniques such as salt, splattering, granulating medium, and brusho to create different textures. For example, salt creates intricate patterns in the foreground grasses and hills, while splattering paint adds texture and movement. In addition, the granulating medium and brusho enhance the quality of the teasels and grasses.

Road to Yorkshire is similar in style to this painting.

Hills at Dusk invites viewers to immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature. This painting attracts walkers and nature lovers.
